Summary:

Our school participated in Socrates Comenius program. It created a possibility of contact and skill-sharing between teachers and students from different schools in Europe. One of the countries which organized the international meeting between European teachers and students was Denmark. Danish fame is strongly connected with many legendary figures. One of them is Hans Christian Andersen, the person probably known by every child. He was the author of beautiful fairy tales. The second is Hamlet- Danish prince who appeared in William Shakespeare’s drama. The another person is Olgier Dunczyk, the hero of Karol Wielki, who sees in his dreams what happens in Denmark. The trip and stay was planned during 7-12 November. Our school was represented by: - Jacek Perkowski- English teacher - Milena Jamiolkowska – student - Monika Lodko - student Participants decided to describe their memories on the school web. Here you can read a diary from this trip.

I BEGINNING 7th November 2006 Tuesday The Railway Station in Bialystok- Poland Destination: Horsens Denmark We were driving for many kilometers on the European motorways and routes. The trip took nearly 24 hours which allowed us to look at the map very clearly but also to admire beautiful views. In our heads we had plenty of thoughts: how to get there safely or how much should we pay for the stay.

II LET’S GET TO KNOW 8th November 2006 Wednesday Horsens Denmark We are at the Railway Station in Horsens where a very nice Biology teacher welcomes us. At the same time Milena and Monika can meet their Danish friends. In their houses, Polish girls will spend the time. About midday, we can meet with other participants from different schools, such as: - Mikulov – Hungary - Campobasso – Italy Many people, huge confusion. We have problems with remembering all these names. How to welcome all these people at the same time? Firstly, we have to cope with stress. These presentations are a kind of test in which we learn concentration, memory and reflex. Finally, we have time to relax in hostels and in Danish families- our hosts for the nearest days.

III RELAXATION AND WORK 9th November 2006 The second day of our stay in HORSEN was the time of joining work and pleasure. Relaxed after the hardships of a journey and the first impression from the previous day we took part in the presentation of Danish educational system. We visited local school and participated in lesson of foreign languages. After a short break, everyone independently, tries to work out a plan a video project. The hard day of work ended in a pleasant atmosphere – we had a supper with our new friends. We tried to make a good impression and all the time were checking if were doing well in comparison to other participants.

IV A WALK ARONUD HORSEN AND A GREAT FUN IN THE KITCHEN 10th November 2006 The next day of our stay in Horsen was also full of attractions. The walk around a picturesque city was one of them. The headmaster of the visited school – Lars Bioerneboe - acted as our guide. This long walk let us feel the spirit of this city; we got to know its history, its landmarks and also could take a closer look at people living there. The rest of the day we spent in the kitchen preparing supper. Eating is the best pastime ever – especially when spent in good company. But we had to remember about savoir-faire. Each country has its sanctity which should be respected and its custom to which we should be open. It’s not a secret that food tastes much better when the talk accompanying it is about pleasant things – not about politics, taxes or terrorism. We avoid these subjects.

V TIME TO SAY “GOODBYE” AND COME BACK HOME 11th November 2006 This was our last day in a hospitable HORSEN. Last moments spent together with other participants of the programme were spent on exchanging phone numbers. A few moments later we got on the train to Poland. We left behind friendly hosts and residents and now a little bit more familiar places. About noon we reached Copenhagen. Our plan was to do some sightseeing, to go on a shopping spree and to spend the last night on a hospitable Danish land. 12th November 2006 In the early morning hours we said goodbye to this charming country, to a very interesting folklore and to breathtaking monuments. We started our 24 hour long journey home.
